We are off to the New Year with a rough start with people getting lit on fire on the subway, getting shoved, and now terrible wildfires in Los Angeles. I know what it's like to be displaced, last year this same time, right after Christmas, I had an electrical fire in my building. The whole building had no electricity for a whole month. I stayed in different hotels that my insurance covered and spent a lot of time trying to find where are places with chargers and quiet places to make phone calls and see my clients.
It was so hard to work and deal with not having a home at the same time. By the end of the month, I went a little crazy and started crying.
What I learned about trauma is that some triggers and reminders take you straight to the past event at the speed of light. There is a lot of uncertainty in America right now, including economic, climate, and political changes. I circle from going numb to going crazy from caring too much.
What I did learn from the pandemic is that when there is uncertainty, it's important to not make any rash decision, whether is to move across the world or quit your job. During the beginning of the pandemic, I freaked out and sold all my Amazon stocks and other stocks. Now if I held on tight to those stocks, it would be worth triple times the amount I stole it.
Just remember, social media and the news sensationalize and scare everyone. So I hope everyone who reads this hangs on tight and takes it day by day. We should not freak out or make any rash decisions based on fear but only on facts.
Therapy can be so powerful and grounding to get you through uncertain times. I hope to be like the amazon stocks during the pandemic that you can hold on tight during uncertain times. Contact me for a free 15-minute consultation to see if you are a good fit for starting therapy.
